SJ Higgins Group delivers new McDonald's in Townsville CBD

We have delivered the new McDonald's restaurant in Townsville, Australia's first new stand-alone McDonald's with a dedicated ‘Create Your Taste’ Burger Bar.

 

The modern, cosmopolitan design features a new Burger Bar, seating for 90 guests, a 31-space car park, McCafe, Playland design for children, dual lane drive thru and the recently introduced 'Create Your Taste' gourmet burger menu.

New Construction Manager appointed
SJ Higgins Group is very delighted to announce the appointment of Ken de Souza as Construction Manager for Victoria.

 

Ken joined SJ Higgins Group in 2008 as a Senior Project Manager and has been integral in the company’s successful track record and growth in the health sector.

 

As Construction Manager, Ken holds overall responsibility for the successful delivery of all building construction projects including quality, contract budget, program, OH&S and industrial relations.

ALDI Clontarf opens for businessOur second ALDI store in Queensland has opened for business yesterday.

 

Designed by Lonergan+Law Architects, the $2.4 Million project comprised construction of a new-look retail outlet within the roof and structure of an existing building shell. The scope of works comprised partial demolition of the existing building façade, refurbishment and extension of the overall building structure and carpark and fit out of the new store.

New Project: Mentone Grammar School Creativity Centre SJ Higgins Group has been successful with their bid for the new Creativity Centre at Mentone Grammar School.

 

Construction of the new $20 Million cutting edge facility is scheduled to commence in November. The new two-level Creativity Centre will include a 450 seat theatre, learning facilities for middle and senior students including purpose-designed visual arts studios for painting, sculpture, drawing, digital photography, printmaking and visual communication design. There will also be a specialist food and materials technology, robotics, animation and 3D labs, a recording studio as part of an extensive new music school, drama and dance studios, passive and active learning zones and courtyards, and a stunning gallery space.

New Project: Banksia Point Apartments

We are excited to announce that we have been awarded the $13 Million Banksia Point Apartments project.

 

Banksia Point is an apartment and retail building located on the foreshore next to Rosebud Pier and comprises a new basement carpark, ground floor of apartments, restaurants & cafes, first & second floor of apartments and concrete roof deck.

 

Once completed, the new building will house 34 1, 2 and 3 bedroom luxury apartments, 5 cafes & restaurants with the rooftop featuring a heated pool, spas, barbecue area, kids play area and garden with amazing coastal views.

New Project: Monash House Day Procedure Centre

We have been awarded the contract for the Monash House Day Procedure Centre.

 

The project comprises demolition and refurbishment of the existing Medical Centre consulting suites. The existing Medical Centre was designed and constructed by SJ Higgins Group in 2010.

 

The building will be fitted out to convert it into a new private hospital. The works, over 3 levels, will consist of new doctors' consulting suites, four new operating theatres, post-operative recovery area, staff facilities and X-Ray. It will also encompass new mechanical services to services the operating theatres.

The project is to be completed in 2 stages, Ground floor and Level 1 & 2. The works will be conducted over a 5 month period.

 

We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Baade Harbour Australia to deliver this redevelopment.

SJ Higgins Group obtains PC for Frankston Hospital Ambulatory Care

We have achieved Practical Completion for the new Ambulatory Care at Frankston Hospital.

 

This project provides an additional twenty two consult/ examination rooms, with support facilities, new entry, and dedicated waiting areas. The existing Ambulance bays were reconfigured to incorporate a new airlock/main entry, patient drop-off and emergency vehicle parking.

Hawthorne Deluxe Precinct Update

Our team on the Hawthorne Deluxe Precinct project has been busy with erecting tilt-up panels weighing in excess of 52 tonnes each. Cast on site, the panels are lifted by a 350 tonne crane including panels 9 by 9 metres in size and 310mm in thickness.

The project comprises a new entertainment and retail precinct including a 64 seat deluxe cinema.

SJ Higgins Group Queensland delivers first ALDI store

Our Queensland Office is excited to announce that we have successfully delivered our first ALDI store.

 

The project comprised an extension to the existing trading area including a new airlock, canopy, updated signage and fitout of extended area. As part of this extension project, a new forecourt and car bays to front and side of store were constructed.

 

With customer health and safety and minimum interruption to ALDI's store operations a key priority, our team drew on their extensive retail experience to successfuly deliver this project.

New Project: Frankston Hospital Hybrid Theatre

SJ Higgins Group has been awarded the multimillion contract for the Frankston Hospital Hybrid Theatre project.

 

The scope of works includes construction of an new Hybrid Operating Theatre, new Control room, Equipment room and Tutorial facilities adjacent to the new Theatre. A new Plant Room to service the new Hybrid Theatre and adjacent services areas will also be constructed.

 

We are pleased to continue our excellent working relationship with Johnstaff Projects and Lyons Architecture to deliver the new operating theatre. Our current project at Frankston Hospital comprising conversion of the existing Emergency Department into a new Ambulatory Care is due for completion in August 2015.

The Official Opening and Blessing of Marian College Design Warehouse and the Brigid Arthur Centre

The Marian College community gathered today with representatives from the school and church community including Mr Michael Doyle from the Kildare Education Ministries Board, School Principals Mr Ray Pisani and Rita Grima, Sister Margaret Hill and Sister Maree Marsh CSB to celebrate the opening and blessing of the new buildings.

 

SJ Higgins Group's Construction Director, Shannon Synnott and our project team joined the opening ceremony.

 

The Brigid Arthur Centre was named after the school's former Principal Sr Brigid Arthur CSB who unveilled the plaques officialy opening the new buildings.

 

The multimillion dollar project comprised construction of a new Design Warehouse facility, refurbishment of the remaining Design Education facility into a Food Technology facility and construction of a central Outdoor Food Court. We are pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Minx Architecture and Marian College to deliver this exciting project.

Our Queensland Office has relocated....upstairs! We are delighted to announce that after 5 years at our previous address, we have relocated our Queensland office to the second floor within our current building.

 

Our new address is Unit 7, 23 Breene Place, Morningside.

The move is effective from Friday 10 July 2015.

Koo Wee Rup Secondary College completed

The multi-stage redevelopment project at Koo Wee Rup Secondary College has reached practical completion.

 

The scope of the $6 Million project comprised new buildings for Year 7 and Year 10-12 and new canteen/student lounge as part of Stage 1 works. Stage 2 works included a new Year 8 building as an extension of existing Green House building.

Second project with Kimberley College Carbrook

We are delighted to announce that our Queensland team has been awarded the Art and Library project at Kimberley College in Carbrook. This follows our recent completion of the Year 7 classroom and Prep GLA. Project construction is set to commence early July.

 

Designed by Guymer Bailey Architects, the project comprises construction of two new junior classrooms, courtyard and associated landscaping. A new Art/ Library building will be constructed to include an auditorium, a kiln, library, meeting rooms, reading terraces, and outdoor learning areas.

 

We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Guymer Bailey Architects and KImberley College again.

Werribee Mercy Mental Health project update

Our site team was quite busy today with precast concrete panels erected by a 250 tonne crane for a stair shaft as part of Phase 1 of the project.

 

A larger crane was used to lift the panels due to the site's access constraints and panel size was increased to reduce the overall cranage time.

Historic Melbourne Hotel gets a facelift.

We have obtained Practical Completion for the refurbishment of the historic Melbourne Hotel in Bundaberg.

 

Built in 1885, the Melbourne Hotel has undergone a major refurbishment over 3 stages. Stage 1 comprised extension of the existing hotel to cater for new facilities including gaming, bistro, kitchen, bar, garden lounge and kids playground.

Stages 2 & 3 works included internal demolition and repair of the historic building damaged in the 2012 and 2013 floods including construction of a new public bar, lounge and verandah.

.

SJ Higgins Group is pleased to have had another opportunity to work with the ALH Group and Darren Dickfos Architects to deliver this exciting project.

Dan Murphy's Jimboomba ready for business

We have successfully delivered the the new Dan Murphy's Liquor Outlet $3.5 Million store in Jimboomba.

 

The project comprised construction of a new standalone retail facility with a mezzanine administration level, Back of house areas, trading floor and cold rooms.

 

From the project start, there were numerous challenges to manage, including latent soil conditions and severe weather. As the new store was part of the existing Jimboomba Shopping Centre complex, our project team maintained consistent channels of open communication and collaboration with other retailers on site to ensure construction works had a minimal impact on store operations.

Practical Completion for Grace Lutheran College in Caboolture Our Queensland team has achieved Practical Completion for the a multi-stage $1.2 Million project at Grace Lutheran College in Caboolture.

 

The project comprised construction of two classrooms including extension for new activity areas to infill an existing undercroft area. A new quadrangle shade structure was designed and constructed over the existing campus quadrangle. The project also comprised design and construction of a new multipurpose roof structure constructed over the existing multipurpose courts.

SJ Higgins Group obtain PC for Dandenong Police Station refurbishmentOur Victorian team has obtained Practical Completion for the $3.8 Million refurbishment project at Dandenong Police station.

 

SJ Higgins Group was contracted by Victoria Police to deliver the staged internal fit-out and construction of a new pavilion for the Dandenong Police Station. This was a particularly challenging project where construction works took place in an operational police station including working above active holding cells.

Western Private Hospital Linkbridge underway If you were in the area of the Western Private Hospital in Footscray over the weekend, you would have seen a crane lifting 300 tonnes of precast panels over Eleanor Street to create a linkbridge between the existing hospital building and the new one that SJ Higgins Group is building.Western Private Hospital

Queensland Team engaged to deliver new Hawthorne Deluxe Precinct We are proud to announce that our Queensland Office has been successful in their bid for the exciting Hawthorne Deluxe Precinct project.

 

The $3.5 Million project comprises a new entertainment and retail precinct to be located at the corner of Hawthorne Road and Lindsay Street in Brisbane. A new 64 seat deluxe cinema will be constructed including a bar and commercial kitchen. As part of this project, an existing traditional pre 1900s Queensland style house will be relocated across the site and converted into a two level retail/hospitality tenancy.

Queensland Team awarded first ALDI contract We are delighted to announce that our Queensland Office has been engaged to deliver our first ALDI contract in Queensland. ALDI Clontarf is a $2.4 Million project comprising construction of a new retail store including retail floor space, administration area and receipt/dispatch area.

 

The new store, designed by Lonergan+Law Architects, will be constructed and fitted out within the roof and structure of an existing building with works scheduled to commence early May 2015.

 

Our Queensland Team's extensive experience in retail construction across metropolitan, regional and remote Queensland will assist with meeting the challenge of working with a new Client. We are excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with ALDI Australia in delivering this new store in Clontarf.

Practical Completion for Waverley Christian College The new two-storey science wing includes two chemistry labs, two biology labs, a physics lab and a general science lab. These labs are fitted out with modern science education facilities, including the latest teaching technologies. These classrooms are all connected by light-filled hallways with glass-clad external walls so students can view the expansive sports fields the new facility overlooks.

 

SJ Higgins Group has also been successful in their bid to deliver the landscaping component, with works currently under way. Once completed, the new Science Wing external area will provide seating and paving areas, an outdoor classroom and planting. s. SJ Higgins Group hands over Montmorency Primary School We have recently handed over the $4 Million rebuild of Montmorency Primary School.

The two stage upgrade comprises classroom spaces and a new Administration and Multipurpose facility.

 

The new Learning Area comprises eight activity spaces, staff work area, breakout spaces incorporating Resource/Library Area, shared Wet Area, interview and retreat rooms, student toilets, canopies, verandahs, decks and associated site works.

SJ Higgins Group awarded Frankston Ambulatory Care

We are pleased to advise that our Victorian Office has been engaged to deliver the $2.7 Million refurbishment and conversion of the existing Emergency Department into the new Ambulatory Care facility at Frankston Hospital.

 

This will provide an additional twenty two consult/ examination rooms, with support facilities, new entry, and dedicated waiting areas. The existing Ambulance bays will be reconfigured to incorporate a new airlock/main entry, patient drop-off and emergency vehicle parking. Construction works are scheduled to commence March 2015 and will occur within a live hospital environment with extensive upgrade to existing services including nurse-call, medical gas, etc.

 

This project designed by Lyons Architects, follows our recent award of the major Werribee Mercy Mental Health redevelopment project.

 

Peninsula Health is a major metropolitan health service in Melbourne and is the main provider of public acute, sub-acute (rehabilitation; geriatric evaluation and management), aged care, mental health and community health services for the communities of the greater Frankston and Mornington Peninsula subregional areas.

SJ Higgins Group delivers Stages 3 and 4 at Aquinas College in AshmoreCongratulations to our Queensland team for successfully delivering Stages 3 and 4 of the $6 Million redevelopment project at Aquinas College in Ashmore.

 

Stage 3 of the project comprised construction of a three storey Year 7 building ( Lower Ground , Ground Floor and First Floor)  which included 18 class rooms 2 prep rooms and 2 sciance labs, with an elevated walkway connecting existing buildings from the first floor to the upper floor ( first floor) of the new building. The building comprised two wings and a central atrium/common area.

 

Stage 4 comprised a new single storey workshop to be used for trade training and CAD/CAM consisting of one workshop for metal and wood working, one CAM room for 3D printing and CNC machines a CAD room for design and a Staff room.

 

With the building handed over, our team is in the process of finalising the extensive exterior component of the project. Exterior works include landscaping of a Japanese Garden, an Aboriginal Garden and a rain forest garden, the completion of a 5m high tiered seating area to be used as an external classroom, and the completion of new turf to the football oval.

 

SJ Higgins Group was awarded Stage 3 and 4 of the project at the end of in April 2014 and commenced on the 5th May 2014. The project, designed by Lightwave Architectural,was funded by The Corporation of the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane and was managed by Davis Langdon.

 

We are proud to have had the opportunity to work with the project team to deliver this major redevelopment for Aquinas College.

SJ Higgins Group awarded McAuley House Services for Women SJ Higgins Group has been awarded the contract for a new facility for the Sisters of Mercy in Footscray offering accommodation and community support services for homeless women.

 

The project comprises the construction of a 4 storey homeless centre and rooming house, including office and communal areas on the ground floor, accommodation on levels 1 & 2, and a combination of accommodation and common kitchen / dining / meeting areas on the top floor.

 

McAuley Community Services for Women provides much needed services for women and their children who are escaping family violence, and for women who are homeless. The new development will provide homeless women with support, housing and training encouraging practice of new skills in readiness for living in their own homes.

 

Designed by Hede Architects, the new facility boasts expressive architectural form including a return curved curtain wall façade at the building entrance, ESD oriented solar shading fins which conceal the lightweight structural support elements. The first floor features a cantilevering transfer plate which enables a floating feel to the accommodation above. The spiral staircase also adds to the interest in the façade.

Practical Completion achieved for Kimberley College Carbrook We are proud to announce that the Kimberley College Year 7 Flying Start Project has obtained Practical Completion earlier this week.

 

SJ Higgins Group was engaged early 2014 to deliver a new Year 7 building, an environmentally responsive teaching facility with internal and external teaching spaces, flexible learning areas and support spaces.

 

Scope of works comprised extension to an existing school consisting of a year 7 classroom project and Prep GLAs. The year 7 component consisted of 6 GLA classrooms, flexible learning space and ancillary support spaces. The Prep area consisted of 2 GLA classrooms, ancillary support spaces and a toilet block. In addition to the main building, the existing staff car park was extended as well as associated landscaping to the building area.

 

This was our first project with Guymer Bailey Associated and we are very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with them.

Lake Vermont Mine Ultra Class Workshop in operation It's exciting to see buildings we have constructed in use, particularly when it is a large, 24 metre high structure such as the 8 Bay Ultra Class Haul Truck Workshop at Lake Vermont Mine.

 

The project, completed early 2013, comprised design and construction of the Lake Vermont Mine Industrial Area increasing coal production from 4MT to 12MT pa. Construction involved the new 8 Bay Ultra Class Haul Truck Workshop, 800,000 Litre Fuel Farm, Light Vehicle Re-fuel, Heavy Vehicle Re-fuel and Tanker Unload points, Heavy Vehicle Wash Bay, Lighting Towers, Jacking Slab, Paths and Oily Water Separation plant.

 

SJ Higgins Group was engaged on a design and construct basis as a Coal Mine Operator by the Department of Mines and Energy to operate under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act. SJ Higgins Group obtains Practical Completion for Maroondah Hospital Redevelopment Practical Completion for the $16.9 Million Maroondah Hospital Redevelopment project was issued late 2014.

 

SJ Higgins Group was appointed in August 2012 to deliver the 3 Stage major redevelopment project.

Stage 1 comprised construction of an additional fourth floor ward with an adjoining passageway, substantial disruptive services reticulation through live ward areas, retrofitting lift access to new floor area and re-fitting of 20 Bed Subacute ward.

Stage 2 works included demolition of an existing roof structure, construction of a 16 Bed Intensive Care Unit with administration and fit out of a new 30 bed Medical/Surgical ward.

As part of Stage 3, our team demolished the existing Intensive Care Unit to build a new Intensive Care Unit administration area and extension of existing Subacute Ward.    

 

Construction works took place in an operational hospital environment with minimal impact on operations and health and safety.
