Overview
One design. Three schools. Creating additional learning capacity across Melbourne’s rapidly growing north & west.
Higgins partnered with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) to deliver a bundle of expansion works across Aitken Hill Primary School, Aintree Primary School and Gaayip-Yagila Primary School.
Delivered concurrently across three operational campuses, the Design & Construct project provided each school with a new two-level learning building designed to support growing enrolments and contemporary teaching practices.
Based on a consistent design approach, each building incorporates flexible learning and collaboration areas, specialist art and science spaces, a library, outdoor breakout areas, staff facilities and meeting spaces. External works were tailored to each campus and included landscaping, paving and upgrades to surrounding access points.
Three live schools. One coordinated approach.
Working simultaneously across three active school environments required careful planning and close collaboration with each school community.
Our teams coordinated deliveries and construction activities around daily school operations, scheduling higher-impact works outside school hours and maintaining clear separation between students, staff and construction zones. Consistent quality and safety processes were applied across the bundle, while individual staging strategies responded to the operational requirements for each campus.
Despite the accelerated timeframes and complexities of managing three sites concurrently, all three buildings were completed on schedule, providing much-needed additional learning capacity for growing communities.
Aitken Hill Primary School
The expansion at Aitken Hill Primary School delivered a new two-level learning building within the existing operational campus, creating much-needed additional capacity for the growing school community.
The new facility incorporates flexible learning and collaboration areas, specialist art and science spaces, a library, staff facilities and outdoor breakout areas, all carefully integrated with the existing school environment.
Aintree Primary School
At Aintree Primary School, Higgins delivered a contemporary two-level learning building designed to provide greater flexibility for teaching, learning and collaboration.
Delivered within a live school environment, the works also included external upgrades to connect the new building with the broader campus while minimising disruption to students and staff throughout construction.
Gaayip-Yagila Primary School
The expansion of Gaayip-Yagila Primary School provided additional contemporary learning spaces to support the needs of its growing Mickleham community.
The new two-level building combines flexible classrooms with specialist, collaborative and staff spaces, creating an adaptable learning environment designed to support the school well into the future.
